AN ENCHANTED GREEN GOWN AND GOODREADS GIVEAWAYS
An enchanted green gown from His Majesty’s Theatre first ran riot across the streets of Perth at the end of 2014 in Vic Park author, Jacqueline Perry-Strickland’s, debut novel, The Magpie’s Nest.
Three years on, the gown is up to no good once more, and in the sequel, The Cat’s Miaow, Jacqueline said she has ‘taken the ball and not just run, but taken off with it.’
The Cat’s Miaow picks up a couple of months after where The Magpie’s Nest left off.
Esmeralda – the enchanted gown – has been stolen and Ruby Sullivan, the dramatic and superstitious mistress of the costume emporium on Queen Street in Perth city, makes it her mission to find it.
‘Ruby channels a private investigator as she sets her mind to finding the thief, so the reader starts in the film noir ramblings of her imagination before taking flight from Perth to Europe and North America,’ Jacqueline explained.
‘A reader of The Magpie’s Nest told me the reason she loved it so much was it seemed like being in a movie – she was so familiar with all the Perth locations that she could see the story unfold in her mind. The Cat’s Miaow does the same – Perth-ites will see all the places they are familiar with alongside some favourite international locations. There’s a bit of local history mixed in and February’s international arts festival weaves its way into the plot, as well.’
Nosh Gourmet and Gifts, Crow Books and The Good Store, all on Albany Highway in Vic Park will carry The Cat’s Miaow when it is released on 24 October. Three free, signed copies of each book are currently on offer through the Goodreads website leading up to the 24 October release of The Cat’s Miaow.
