Moody hipster haunt right on the money

Full of happy Friday vibes, we were welcomed into the already half full bar at 5.30pm and shown to our table for two. The initial feel is ‘That Little Mexican Place’ with a simple but stylish revamp – think moody dark timber and leather… hipster heaven. Make sure you check out the light fittings made from old whiskey decanters. Very cool.

Prices are very reasonable. Glasses of wine from $8, spirits from $9, and where else in Perth can you get an espresso martini for $14?? We went with our staple bottle of Shiraz which was $34.

Food was also reasonably priced. Appetisers from $5.  We selected the beef jerky and deep fried pickles which were my favourite find in the U.S having travelled there extensively only a couple of months ago. These ones didn’t disappoint. Perfect crunchy batter and not at all oily with a yummy aioli for dipping. I would have been happy with my wine and an endless supply of these all night!

Next up, the sliders. We had one of each – mushroom with onion ring, battered snapper and pulled pork. These were all good but not particularly standout however, I am a tough critic!

Following this we chose one of the large share plates – the eggplant parmigiana. Again, perfectly battered and fried and not oily. We also had a bowl of steamed (ok, and buttered!) veggies to cut through the amount of deep fried fare we’d just consumed!  Fresh and perfectly cooked baby carrots, cauliflower, green beans and more. I couldn’t really detect the butter which was probably a good thing at this stage.

An enjoyable couple of hours on the strip. We left suitably tipsy and satisfied. We recommend you check Decanter out for yourself Vic Park peeps – well worth the visit!
