Vic Park’s Kids Need Better Places to Play!

Local families and businesses are working together to raise awareness of the need for more

stimulating and challenging play environments for kids in the Victoria Park area.

Under the banner ‘People For Parks‘ a growing number of local people are calling for better playgrounds and parks, including a new nature based playground at McCallum park near the Causeway.

“The existing playground at McCallum Park is uninspiring and of limited interest to the children who come here with their families to enjoy this beautiful location” said People For Parks founder, Luke Garswood.

“A location like McCallum Park deserves more attention and our kids would benefit greatly from better play spaces.” Mr Garswood said.

Local business proprietors and residents Lee and Derek Baston agree and support the call for a new playground on the foreshore.

“The proximity to the Swan River makes McCallum Park an ideal place to build a playground that complements the natural environment and gives city kids the opportunity to connect with nature” Lee Baston said.

A picnic will be held at McCallum Park at 10am on Sunday 1 December at the playground nearest the Causeway. The picnic will provide an opportunity for local families to show their support for a new playground and to hear about the benefits of nature-based play.

Carlisle business Nature Play Solutions is generously supporting the event and kids who attend will be able to build their own bush cubbies.

“The picnic is just the start of building the community momentum for better play spaces” Mr Garswood said.

“Come along with your picnic and your ideas and build a bush cubby!”
